Quilt Week 2016 – Paducah Rotary

2016.04.22 Arriving Rotary

I am going to Over the decades that we have gone to Paducah, the Robert Cherry Civic Center (The Rotary), has always been our first stop when arriving because of the Vendors and the antique quilt display they feature every year! This year was no exception.

The first rotary stop is at Francis Quinn’s Booth, aka Hooplapatterns.com. She creates patterns to make a reproduction of quilts currently in great museums. I love her patterns and have many in progress.

The next stop is at the author’s table for the antique quilt display. This year was “Quilts: Patriotic and Presidential”, by curator Sue Reich. Of course I bought her book that documents the exhibit. It was fabulous! Next everyone signed up for the Rotary Antique Rose Appliqué Quilt Facebook give away. We ran into Sandy K, Sandy C, and Faye and made them sign up too!

The next day, we ran all around Paducah seeing the quilts and vendors at the Expo Center and then the Finkel Building, and when leaving Linzey Joy got a call to say she won the Rotary Quilt Facebook drawing and they had been looking for her all day! So we ran off to the Rotary.

We entered the Rotary screaming, calling all our favorite vendors and friends to join us in celebrating. As Linzey Joy claimed the raffle quilt, Francie joins the screaming and Sue Reich came over , and Jamie talked about how the Rotary staff looked all day for Linzey Joy through the 3500 entries so they could tell her she won. They saw that I took a rotary picture Friday and tagged Linzey in Facebook so Jamie knew we were friends and messaged me but of course I never saw it because I was too busy shopping! The rotary lady there remembered us from Friday and was “so glad you won” and the church lady said “I served you dinner last night at the church”! This means everyone from town that we knew was there and then pictures ensued with Cindy’s Antique Quilts, the donator.
